Spanky the Dog

Last year I spent some time as a dog walker while doing Paper Foldables freelance. It was one of my best jobs ever! I walked so many sweet pups and I miss 'em all. One of my favourites was Spanky! He was always the 01st one I picked up on my route. I'd usually show up early just to play with him before we got to the poopin' business! Spanky was a rescue dog and now belongs to a great couple who were just recently married. They hired me to make these Spanky centerpieces with the idea that they would hold treats for wedding guests. It was also the topper for the wedding cake! What an honor! I even got to attend the beautiful wedding at BAM and brought Spanky as my date! Congrats to the newly married couple, Kenny and Joey!

I would have loved to do many more, but time was pressing, so you'll just have to make do with Mummy, Dracula, and Frankenstein (yes, I know it's "Frankenstein's Monster", but let's just pass a bill already to officially name him Frankenstein)! Booby Traps

My talented brother wrote a script for a movie called "Booby Traps" and is currently in the process of trying to get it made! He is starting by making a promotional trailer for the film to shop around and hopefully get some interest and funding behind a full feature. I made a series of Paper Foldables as trophy awards when you defeat a level of Esquire's new iPad game app, "The Hardest Puzzle Ever"! Duke Nukem Forever

The much awaited "Duke Nukem Forever" video game is finally coming! I produced these Paper Foldables for 2K Games and will be available in the Balls of Steel edition along with a bunch of other cool stuff! You'll get a beautiful package with nicely printed DUKE foldables that you can assemble, if you can put the game down for a couple minutes, that is. I made Duke Nukem chompin' on a stogie and holding the severed head of a Pig Cop. BaDaSs! You'll also get a foldable template of the Nukem symbol. Display it proudly! 2K is previewing the foldables in the community section of the Duke Nukem website and has even released the symbol foldable for you to make RIGHT NOW!!! Do it.

I designed this as a promo for the 2010 release of Tetris Party Deluxe on the Wii and DS, but I guess they didn't use it. Snowball Paper Foldable!

Been working on this one for a while to commemorate this past winter. If you miss or missed all the great snowball fights, why not just go ahead and have a PAPER snowball fight! This is the first time I actually used a CAD program to design a Paper Foldable due to it's complexity and the 3D curves and angles. Takes me about 02 hours to assemble one, but hang in there and be patient and you can have your very own snowball too!

Bit.Trip FATE

With the next installment of another fine Bit.Trip game, comes another awesome Paper Foldable! Bit.Trip is a series of retro-esque rhythm-themed games starring CommanderVideo for Nintendo Wii's downloadable game service, WiiWare. Bit.Trip FATE is the latest journey (05/06 games in the series) from Gaijin Games. I have most of these games on my Wii and always keep as channels! Super fun and challenging, if you're in for more than just the visual TRIP! This is my 03rd promotional Paper Foldable for Bit.Trip! I wanted to make this one EXTRA cool. My original idea was for an interactive diorama scene, sort of the inverse of what I designed for Bit.Trip RUNNER. Then I came up with the ol' skool arcade cabinet bank idea! Took some time to get the design just right but it was worth it, as I am really pleased with the outcome! The back of the foldable is the iconic CommanderVideo torso, turn around and it's an arcade machine complete with joystick and coin slot! Insert your loose change and use it as a bank! Check out these Paper Foldables I designed for Nexon's super cool FREE online "frenetic multiplayer action" game, PopTag! Uh, when the title of something ends in a punctuation and is at the end of a sentence, do I need to end the sentence with another punctuation? Just to be safe - check out PopTag!! I was asked to create Paper Foldables of 02 of the characters in the game, of which there are many to choose from, "Boz" and "Posh Evie". I even threw in a Paper Foldable water balloon to make the set complete! With all this free stuff, how could you lose? Well, I guess if one of your friends drops a water balloon on you in online battle, then I guess you lose. Either way, it's not if you win or lose, it's how well you make the awesome Paper Foldables. It's Adventure Time! I am very pleased to announce my latest project - a full collectable set for Cartoon Network's mathematically algebraic new show, ADVENTURE TIME! I bought the season pass off of iTunes before this project was officially a go, and spent a day watching and re-watching all the episodes for research. I was so excited, I spent a whole weekend working up a spec set of one of my favorite characters, which I'm happy to say will be available soon for you to make! How cool is that for work? The show is totally right up my ally, humor and design wise. It's all very fun and I am having a blast translating characters to Paper Foldables format! Adventure Time is created by Pendleton "Pen" Ward (@buenothebear), animated by Frederator studios, and appears Monday nights on Cartoon Network! The hero boy of the show, "Finn", is first up on the official website in the downloads section as "Paper Cut Outs". There will be one released every week, so keep checking back and collect 'em all!

Thorium Wars

Here's a set of Paper Foldables I designed for Big John Games promoting their futuristic vehicle shooter DSiWare video game, "Thorium Wars"! The set includes Cerberus Tank, UTU Skyfighter, and Manticore vehicles - all featured in the game. This is actually one of the 01st DSiWare titles I downloaded for my new DSi, so I was excited to work on this project! Thorium Wars is definitely a challenging game if you are a fan of the genre. I think I've only been able to get up to level 03, but admittedly, most of my time was spent designing these awesome vehicles! The design process was a bit of a challenge too, but I think I was able to come out with a nice tight template design worthy of representing an awesome game. This set is more difficult to assemble than my typical Paper Foldables, but with some time and some tape, you'll have a nice little keepsake!

Little Old Lady Hard Candy Dispenser

To celebrate my Grandmom's 95th birthday, I designed these hard candy dispensers for everyone at her luncheon party! I filled them up with those little chalky mints for all to enjoy. The original plan was to fill up with Werther's Originals, a candy staple amongst old people, but could only fit about 02 or 03 pieces. Grandmom liked the Paper Foldable of her, but suggested less wrinkles next time! I started the project with an entirely different concept in mind. I made a little old lady figure with a hunch back and all, but then was suddenly inspired by my Darth Vader pez dispenser I have on my desk and went for the candy dispenser theme.

Continuing with the success and popularity of my official BioShock 2 Paper Foldables set for 2K Games, I was asked to create yet another Big Daddy toy which is to be released with the BioShock 2 soundtrack! This new Big Daddy Paper Foldable is the character, "Rumbler". The PDF template file is laid out a little differently than usual, as this was designed to fit the size of a jewel case.

Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!

Back in 2008, I scored my 01st official freelance Paper Foldables job for one of my favourite comedy shows, Adult Swim's "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!" I absolutely love this show and I've even seen their live shows a couple of times. I approached Tim and Eric about the idea of Paper Foldables for their website, www.timanderic.com, and they went for it! I originally made a foldable for their character, "Spagett", and they suggested foldables for their characters, "Casey and his brother". Casey and his brother are a musical duo who perform on "Uncle Muscle's Hour"... Casey is a bit special and his brother dances around in the background with cute outfits. I designed the Brother foldable in 02 parts: a semi-nude body and a hamburger outfit which you can fit on him when you get tired of looking at his pee-stained underwear! Tim and Eric are now on Season Cinco (05) of "Awesome Show" and I am posting this because I see their next episode features the resurrection of Casey (who was killed off a couple seasons back)! My foldables were available on the Tim and Eric website in the store section, but has been a broken link for a while. Don't fret, pet... I have them available on my website too! I came up with this playset scene foldable that's based on the actual game layout screens, which are old skool style isometric pixel renderings. The object of the game is to rescue your goldfish by figuring out a way to get to it by eluding enemies and altering the environment using power-ups! My Street Fighter Paper Foldables I designed for CAPCOM are now available for download! I made the 08 original characters from the legendary Street Fighter 2 video game: Ryu (Hadoken included!), Ken, E. Honda, Guile, Chun Li, Blanka, Dhalsim and Zangief! These were all present in life-size form at the Street Fighter IV release party. It was a thrill to see these be part of such a large event! Finger Football Game

Here's a project I worked on back in 2008 for Manchester United. I was illustrating assets for a CD-ROM and came up with this idea for a fun downloadable Paper Foldable soccer game. The original idea was to have a single "finger footballer" character that you can slip onto your pointer digit and use it to try and flick a piece of popcorn into your friend's mouth hole. They liked the idea and we expanded it into a full-on desktop game complete with goalie, ball, and net! One player uses his finger footballer to try and flick the ball into the net, while the other controls the goalie to try and block the shot (you may have to tape the net down to your desk). I also made an animation demonstrating all you need to know to get started!

I got the sudden urge to make a "TWIKI" Paper Foldable last night, so here it is. TWIKI (TWKE-4) was the goofy little robot with the bowl haircut from the show, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. He would stumble around saying "BIDI BIDI" and stuff. I vaguely remember watching this show when I was a little kid, so it's burned permanently into my childhood memory bank. Attached to Twiki's chest is this talking computer thing called "Dr. Theopolis"... and this was BEFORE Flavor Flav rocked the giant clock! I used to call my little brother Twiki, because he had the same haircut.

Friday the 13th - SANDY

Happy Friday the 13th! I am a big Friday the 13th movie fan. Sometimes my birthday falls on a Friday the 13th, I have a collection of Jason actor autographs, and I even go camping where they made the 01st movie! It's a healthy obsession. So to celebrate, I wanted to start a new Paper Foldables tradition. On every Friday the 13th of the calendar year, I'll release a new Paper Foldable based on a Friday the 13th movie character!

Jason seemed the obvious choice for the debut Friday the 13th Paper Foldable, but I love the obscure and went with "Sandy", the diner waitress from part 01! Sandy is only in the movie for a minute or 02, but they are memorable moments... trying to figure out if that's a man in drag or what? Alas, Sandy, played by Sally Anne Golden, is indeed woman... a handsome woman! She flirts and serves up Steve Christy's last meal before his fated trip back to camp.

I was psyched to see this giant billboard in Manhattan today promoting the upcoming remake of "V"! The original series from the 80's was a huge part of my childhood. I even had a V club, which basically consisted of me and my little brother spelling out "V" with pine cones in our backyard. I also used to make V glasses out of paper that had crayon coloured eyes that were removable to reveal the scary lizard eyes! Round 7 vs. Stone Wizard

Here is the final boss of my Kid Niki series, "Stone Wizard"! This is the guy who kidnapped Kid Niki's girlfriend causing the radical ninja to fight through all of the previous levels and bosses to try and save her. At level 07, Stone Wizard stands atop a set of stairs spitting fireballs at you. You can see the girlfriend/princess tied up just beyond waiting for her hero! You have to dodge the fireballs and attack the Stone Wizard, who upon defeat, turns into a little spirit thing and flies away. Then Kid Niki can go get his girlfriend for some points! The End! ...or is it? UGH! Level 08 what??? Well I guess after you save the damsel, you have to chase after the bubble blowing Stone Wizard and finish him off for good to become the ultimate radical ninja of all time. Yay! So there it is... the Kid Niki Boss series! I guess I have to make the Kid himself now.

Hipster With the Skinny Jeans

Here's installment #04 of my Hipster-of-the-Month series for FREEwilliamsburg.com, "Hipster With the Skinny Jeans"! Hipsters like standing out by dressing alike. Dress code usually include the SKINNY JEANS (or cut-off jean shorts) base, complimented with tight, loud chic shirts (anything with snap buttons are cool), sweatbands, Rachel Ray terror scarf, mustache, trucker hat, tattoos, vintage sunglasses, etc... anything "ironic" (like rain on your wedding day). I live in Brooklyn, so hipster poseurs are unavoidable. I saw a guy wearing a John Deere hat (a popular item) the other day, the irony being he's probably never done yard work (now you're getting it!). That gave me the idea to put some irony ON the irony and make it into a "Dear John" hat! "Dear John" was a TV show in the 80's starring Judd Hirsch, who replaces the deer in the logo on the hat. I thought it was clever. I spent about a half a day working up the illustration of Judd Hirsch's face, only to shrink it down to a quarter-inch for a joke nobody will get. I think it's worth it!

This hipster is designed to sit on the edge of your desk or computer or whatever... I wanted him to have long dangly legs. My original plan was to include shoes, but that would push the template to 02 pages and I want to keep things as simple as possible.

Gutter Punk Crusty Bank - Hipster #3

Here's my 03rd installment of the Hipster-of-the-Month series for FREEwilliamsburg.com, "Gutter Punk Crusty Bank"! I guess Williamsburg, Brooklyn is being overrun with these gross homeless punks who annoy people by panhandling for beer change and squat in various buildings. This is probably the most nauseating research time I've ever spent... track marks, tattoos, piercings, those tight plaid punk pants... ecch. I designed this punk to act as a bank too! So instead of giving your hard earned change from your iced coffee to a punk, save it in your very own Gutter Punk Crusty Bank! The coin slit in the punk's mouth is big enough to fit a quarter, so don't go and try forcing a half dollar down his throat or he'll choke. I had a fun time thinking up silly tattoos and patches. For example, I thought it would be funny that a punk would spend time cross stitching a Norman Rockwell picture and you can also find a nice "Shaq Fu" patch on the jacket! How counterculture is that?!

DUSHI SUSHI

I had an idea for a Paper Foldable character this morning and just had to crank it out. DUSHI SUSHI! "Dushi", like "douchey" AND it rhymes with sushi! I thought it was funny. I went out and got sushi at lunch and actually scanned in my shrimp/asparagus roll and asked for a sheet of that green seaweed wrap to scan as the skin. Then you just add the popped collar shirt and instant DUSHI SUSHI! Yay!

Round 6 vs. Samurai Guard

FINALLY back with another KID NIKI Paper Foldable installment! Been busy with some cool commission work, but was able to squeeze in this level 06 boss of my favourite NES video game, Kid Niki. He goes by the name, "Samurai Guard". Got just one more boss to go and then I'm all done with the series! I guess I have to make the Kid himself tho. The Kid Niki Paper Foldables aren't exactly the most popular downloads on my site... maybe no one remembers the game? Maybe it was too obscure? Or maybe they just suck? I hope not... I like 'em and this is more of a personal project than anything. Anyway, Samurai Guard! He guards the gate at the castle Kid Niki needs to get to so he can save his girlfriend from The Stone Wizard. He is an ominous being who hovers over the radical ninja. I always used to think he was a robot. He's rather SLOW and mechanical in his movements, but bust him in the kneecap and he'll drop his weapon thing and then go in for the kill! Awesome! Be patient, you can do it Kid!

HYP KYP - Hipster of the Month #2

Here is "Hyp Kyp" (the guy from TV on the Radio)! This is the 02nd installment of my Hipster-of-the-Month Paper Foldables series I am producing for FREEwilliamsburg. Iconic hipster beard, afro, and vintage wardrobe makes Kyp a shoe-in for Paper Foldable immortalization! I always like to try and make my foldables as 01 single template, but I had to separate the head from the rest of the body for max afro goodness... this allows for a sort of bobble head effect. Went thru several variations on the glasses, but finally opted for the simple final version so it's easier for you to cut-out. I also try and make these foldables simple enough for you to cut out, so you don't hate me. Hyp Kyp stands just over 04 inches tall and is great for fans of both hipsters and TV on the Radio. I also just noticed I forgot to put in those little white pieces on the ends of the glasses in my final rendered version, so now I'm all annoyed.

A Typewriter

Here's a Paper Foldable of a typewriter I made for Canal Publishing, promoting the new novel by Christopher Herz, "The Last Block in Harlem". Herz writes the 01st draft of his books on this cool old typewriter of his, which also makes an appearance on the cover of the book. He plans to promote the book grassroots style and make a bunch of these little typewriters and leave them all over NYC! If you are in town, keep your eyes peeled and maybe you'll be lucky enough to find one!

I just finished up a commission Paper Foldable job for IFC channel's bizarre new show, "Food Party"! Had to do a bunch of research for character reference and watch some videos... totally weird and right up my ally! It's now programmed into my DVR. The show premieres Tuesday June 09 at 11:15pm et/pt, so be sure to check it out and make some foldables! TOKI TORI - Paper Foldable

Here's my Paper Foldable promoting the WiiWare/iPhone game, TOKI TORI! Awesome puzzler video game... I downloaded it the other day and have been obsessed on it! Got pretty far into the game too, so I am feeling accomplished. I love the cute, simple game and character design which makes designing a Paper Foldable based on it a pleasure! The design is pretty simple with a couple of plug-in pieces (wings and beak). The beak took the most time... tried to figure out something more pointy and "beaky", but really wasn't quite working. I like the way this turned out.
